“Earls Just Wanna Have Fun” it’s book #4 in the ‘That Wicked O’Shea Family’ series by Merry Farmer. You can definitely enjoy it if you haven’t read the other books in the series. If you’ve had the pleasure of reading those other books, it’s great that many of the other those characters play secondary roles in this story.Lady Shannon O’Shea and her 3 sisters vowed to stay independent women and not marry. Well, all of them have instead found husbands. Although she’s glad they’re happy, she’s steadfast in her determination to focus all of her attention on expanding her brewery business. Lord Colin Crenshaw, the Earl of Stamford, arrives in Ireland to be the best man in his cousin’s, wedding. His cousin is marrying one of Shannon’s sisters. Colin is very unlike the vast majority of noblemen. He despises idleness and enjoys getting his hands dirty doing productive work. When he arrives in Ireland he meets Shannon and is immediately captivated by her, despite the disparity in their ages. It doesn’t bother him at all that she’s almost eight years his senior. Shannon doesn’t know quite what to make of the young lord. He’s genuine and kind, and wonderfully enthusiastic about her business endeavors. He doesn’t at all share the common belief that women lack the intelligence and ability for such things, and that it’s inappropriate for them to be involved in any business at all. He also doesn’t care at all about being younger than she is; he actually appreciates their age difference.For a good portion of the book I felt badly for Colin because Shannon was so difficult. When we read examples of the type of opposition she routinely faces, it becomes much easier to understand the bad attitude she often exhibits. Colin is determined to encourage and support her, and is more than happy to take a submissive type role in their interactions. He is certainly not week, however. He is perfectly willing to stand up to her family, his parents, and society in his efforts to stand by Shannon when she is treated in really cringeworthy ways.I liked the way the story unfolded. Ultimately, Colin and Shannon are both willing to stand up and own their mistakes. They’re willing to suffer criticism and censure in pursuit of love and success. I enjoyed this book very much and I’m looking forward to the next one. What to say, can't help but Chuckle at the pun intended by the title of the last O'Shea sisters novel.Once again a wonderful revelation of the love and lives of this extraordinary family.The moment I read the first of Merry's novels that mentioned Fergus O'Shea, I knew that I was to see him again in more stories, just didn't know that I was to meet an entire unorthodox Irish clan, how silly it is now to look back and think that the Leprechauns were not working in the background!!!I'll not be goaded into revealing the secrets that you shall find, but I shall say that the show is not over until the fat lady sings!!! ;-)Thank you Merry for the insight into history that you have made an art of in your novels, with a teasing smile, a heart singing of love, and often with tragedy that you use to help the characters come to life.What's next?
